Practice Information
Blended Salary Family Health Team
Our team consists of two physicians and two nurse practitioners who share the rostered patient practice with the physicians. Each physician/nurse practitioner duo is supported by an RPN. A Registered Nurse is shared by both teams and works on health promotion, disease prevention, patient teaching and well woman care in such programs as pap smears, smoking cessation, lifestyle management, diabetic education, bone health and frail elderly care. We are fortunate to have a Social Worker to provide mental health care. Our team has access to a dietician and a respiratory therapist (biweekly visits). Two administrative staff provide excellent front-line support.
The Blended Salary model of payment is unique in that physicians are employees and will receive a generous salary complete with a benefit package, RRSP contribution, paid personal days, education days and vacation days. Physicians receive a portion of our OHIP billings, preventative care bonuses, 3rd party billings, leadership bonuses and rural stipends yearly.
There are no overhead costs and no administrative responsibilities; however, our input on administrative matters is valued. The Sauble Family Health Team is run by a community board of caring and responsive local members.
To date, physicians have worked part or full time in the office. There have been no expectations to work at local hospitals or do emergency room shifts; however, these opportunities are available to earn extra income and would be appreciated by local hospitals.
Local Community
The Sauble Family Health Team serves the Lake Huron shoreline communities and surrounding rural areas of the South Bruce Peninsula. Sauble Beach, itself, is famous for its seven miles of clean, white sandy beach and there is nothing like taking a walk to the beach on your lunch!
Sauble Beach and the surrounding areas have a mix of long-term residents, farmers, young growing families and Saugeen First Nation community.
Many people who have vacationed here for years chose to retire in the area. Because of the fluctuating seasonal and tourist population, the population can vary from 2000-8400 (Sauble Beach to South Bruce Peninsula as a whole) to upwards of 400,000 over the course of the summer.
Local schools are excellent. Cultural opportunities include our local Roxy Theatre with regular plays and musical productions. Featured artists have their work displayed regularly in the Artist Co-op in downtown Owen Sound. Sporting opportunities are endless for all seasons as one can ski at Blue Mountain, enjoy local cross country ski trails, snowshoeing, sailing, golfing and some of the best windsurfing and kiteboarding in the area.
