Healthy Bones
Osteoporosis and falls are a major concern in our counties.
Osteoporosis is a thinning of the bones (not arthritis) that can cause fractures, or breaks in a bone, without provocation. These can have devastating health consequences including pain, decreased quality of life, loss of independence and even death. A fragility fracture also increases a person’s risk for future fragility fractures. This year, the Sauble FHT is focusing on having all women over the age of 65 complete a bone density exam.
Followup is provided and at risk patients are encouraged to join one of our Boosting Balance classes or the classes offered by the VON.
Patients at high risk are offered a home assessment by a CCAC nurse to ensure safety.
