Diabetes is a concern for all Canadians as disease rates are quite high.
The complications of diabetes are severe, especially when coupled with other risks such as smoking and high blood pressure and can result in blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and amputations. For this reason, we actively monitor our diabetic patients with regular appointments and offer lifestyle classes to help patients help themselves!
One of our nurses contacts and offers women, between the ages of 21 and 70, a pap smear every three years. Cervical cancer is highly preventable if the woman undergoes regular screening with a pap smear. As well, we are encouraging and promoting HPV vaccine for young adults before the age of 45.
